| Whirlwind of events: Playing with the BOYS! A couple of weekends ago I got the chance to play in the legendary tournament Dig or Die in Fort Collins, CO. Due to the fact that the “Open division/Sand is only men and there is not a women’s division, I got to play with the boys! What a FUN adventure that was. It was truly challenging and I loved playing every match. Our first match of the day was against a friend of mine, and a really good team, but my teammate Erich and I played great! We beat them 25-19. It was SOO fun! Playing against guys is such a different feel and there isn’t as much drama so I loved it!! J Our next match was against the #1 team and they are some of the best guy players in Colorado. They beat us pretty handily, but the match was still fun to play in. There is something about just playing as hard as you can and the freedom of knowing you’re not “supposed to win,” but fighting for every point. Since there were 16 teams and only one court we were done for the day after that game. The next morning we had a tough team and we started out slow. We were down 15-8 until we started to make a comeback and ended up winning 25-22. A good switch of strategy and strong serving helped in our comeback. A couple hours later we played the #3 team and although the beginning was close, they took off and we couldn’t hang with them. This placed us with a finish of tied for 5th in the whole tourney. We lost to the #3, and Champion team, which isn’t bad and it was a blast playing in it. I was grateful Erich took a chance on a girl and we had a lot of fun! AVP goes Down, Bankrupt: Many of you have heard the rumors and it is true, the AVP did fold and cancelled the rest of the season. This is why you haven’t heard from me in a while. Although I am really sad to see if go (for now) it was a blessing in disguise for me. I got to stay in Colorado for more than 30 days without being on an airplane. I was able to run a lot of camps and work with a bunch of kids in the area. This summer was great but went by too fast. I hope the AVP comes back and there is talk of it trying to, but until then, no more AVP. I am worried about all those girls who lived and died by playing on the tour since now we have to actually get real jobs! Ha ha! However, I am so thankful I already love what I do in tutoring and coaching kids. Playing was and always will be one of my greatest passions. Barefoot in Aspen: Tomorrow I am leaving to play in the beloved Motherlode tourney in Aspen, CO. This was the tournament which got me started in beach volleyball and led me to move to CA. This is always such a fun tourney and I am SO blessed that Barefoot wine is sponsoring us again this year. It’s such a treat to feel like a rockstar and have a little cheering squad for the weekend. My parents are also flying in and I am thrilled they will be there cheering and supporting us! If you are in the area and want to come up and cheer, I would love to see you!! J We play Saturday, Sunday and hopefully Monday. This year is going to be the toughest tournament ever. With the collapse of the AVP all the players are coming out here to play, so it’s going to be a competitive and tough, tough tourney. So million-dollar question??? Who am I playing with? Ha ha!! I am playing with Carrie Wright who I won it with 3 years ago. We haven’t played or practiced in all that time, but praying that somehow we will pull it together and give all these AVP girls a major run for their money. J So if I could ask you all to just pray for us this weekend, for our health, as well as meeting some new friends. That’s really the best part for me is meeting some new friends over the weekend. I also would love prayer that we play to our potential and have fun! J Thanks for all your support and coming along side me in this journey of mine. Appreciate all you do for me! Thanks Angela |
