Hurdle in Hermosa

After a miraculous weekend in Manhattan, Chrissie and I knew it would be tough to top that amazing weekend. Teams now weren’t going to take us lightly and would be gearing for us since our 7th place finish. I was so thankful to have my mom and dad fly in again to watch me play for one last time this year. I just am so thankful they have committed to me and supported me throughout these crazy years on the AVP.

Every time my family comes down for a tournament I think they meet like 10 new friends. I love watching them connect people and of course hearing them cheer for us! Our first match was against the #9 team and although we had a great comeback, it wasn’t enough and we lost the match 21-19, and 21-11. Then only 30 minutes later we had to play against a tough team who has been playing the last 9 years on the tour. It was really windy and we couldn’t overcome them and lost 21-17, 21-19.

It’s amazing to be in the ups and downs of professional sports. You never know what is around the corner! As tough as our “draw” or teams we were matched up to play were, I still really enjoyed playing and was so thankful for those who came out to support us. It was amazing to see the people who supported us so mightily in Manhattan, make the time to come again to cheer for us in Hermosa. I just wish that I could fly everyone out to each tournament with me! The greatest tournaments for me have been the ones where I get to share it with the people around me. After the tournament my parents and I got to celebrate the year with an amazing dinner and even got to visit my Oma. Am so thankful for such a great family!

Chrissie and I were supposed to play this weekend in San Francisco and I was very excited about the potential of having my brother and sister-in-law be able to come watch me (since they live in Sacramento) but due to a lot of partner switches, Chrissie and I were tied for the 23rd spot and lost the tie breaker by 2 points. Normally they allow 24 teams, but ironically this was the only tournament they allowed a “wildcard” to a developing team to get a chance to play in the AVP. It’s great for the growth, but tough for us all working so hard to be in the top of the AVP.

So this weekend instead I will be running a free clinic for my church and friends on Saturday and then off to Muskegon, Michigan. I never have heard of Muskegon before so if any of you know anyone who lives there and wants to come watch us play, we would love the support. Or if you have any tips of things to see there. After that tournament I will spend the week in Chicago before the next AVP the following weekend on Oak Avenue Beach, (downtown Chicago) for my last one! Thanks for all your support!!
